In the ancient astrology Sagittarius was considered to be the house of Jupiter – the sign of philosophy, religion, horses, dreams, sport, travel etc. The gem that was the symbol of all of that was turquoise and therefore it was accepted as Sagittarius birthstone. Turquoise was often carried by huntsmen, horsemen and jockeys as a symbol of protection.
